PROMINENT VISITOR.

ADVISER TO GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Sir Herbert Gepp, a prominent Australian business man and an adviser to the Commonwealth Government, arrived to-day by the Wanganclla from Sydney. Sir Herbert, who is accompanied by Lady Gepp, is on a holiday visit to the Dominion. Accompanied by Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, they will spend three days on a motor tour to Auckland, where they will join the Aorangi for the return trip to Sydney.

Sir Herbert Gepp, who received his knighthood in 1933, was born in Adelaide in 1877 and was educated at the Prince Alfred College and Melbourne University. In 1900 Sir Herbert was appointed manager of the Australian Explosives and Chemical Company, and later joined the Zinc Corporation at Broken Hill. He filled several other important managerial positions before becoming chairman of the Development and Migration Commission in 1926, which position he retained until 1930. Sir Herbert is consultant to the Commonwealth Government, chairman of the Consultative Committee and advisory to the Government on development.He was a commissioner for Australia at the Wembley Exhibition, and president of the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy of Australia in 1924. In 1933 he was appointed chairman of a Royal Commission to investigate all phases of the wheat industry and associated industries.
