INCREASE IN WELLINGTON.
VERY BUOYANT POSITION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Customs revenue collected at Wellington continues to be very buoyant, the month's net revenue figure being almost £290,000, which is easily tlxe highest total since June, 1930, The total for the seven months of the current year exceeds the figure for the corresponding period of 1935 by £347,544 and, compared with the same period of 1934, is higher by £55G,148.
The net customs revenue collected at Wellington in July totalled £289,466, compared with £212,088 in July, 1935, an increase of £77,378. For the seven months of the current year the net revenue totals £1,827,414, compared with £1,479,870 for the corresponding period of 1935, an increase of £347,544. The duty collected on motor spirit for the month totalled £59,797, compared with £51,550, an increase of £8247. For the seven months the figures were £485,264 and £389,481 respectively, an increase of £95,783. Collections of tyre tax totalled £2190, compared with £1827, an increase of £363. For the seven months there was a decrease of £514, the figures being £12,906 and £13,420.
Collections of sales tax in July totalled £86,040, compared with £08,855 in July, 1935, an increase of £17,785. The total for the seven months was £587,597, an increase of £110,777 on last year's total of £470,820. This tax came into force on February 10, 1933, and the total so far collected at Wellington is £2,498,899.
Beer excise collections for July totalled £4070, compared with £4618, a decrease of £548. For the seven months there was an increase of £2415, the figures being £33,674 and £31,259 respectively.
