VIGOROUS POLICY. MARKING THE CENTENARY. i j MR. SAVAGE'S SUGGESTIONS. I (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Plans for the prosecution of. public works in New Zealand are at present engaging the attention of tlie Government, but no definite schedule has yet been agreed upon. The Prime -Minister, the Ht. llon. M. J. Savage, stated this afternoon that the Government felt it would be fitting Mo commcmohite the 100 th anniversary 'of the Dominion in 1940 in some substantial form. "What better monument ; could we erect than by completing a | number of public works, including public buildings," sajpr .Mr. Savage. "The (!ov- ' eminent is determined to go ahead with la vigorous public works policy, and if jit lull? not got men in the service at present to do the job. it will see to it that those men will be engaged from outside. - ' Mr. Savage was asked if the proposals of the Government included the completion of Parliament Buildings. ' He . replied that the matter had not been ' definitely decided, but it seemed likely that the Government would have to 'complete Parliament Buildings in addition to erecting other public buildings j that were necessary. The whole matter | would be discussed by Cabinet during the week.
