CHRISTMAS GRATUITY.

HOSPITAL'S APPRECIATION,

The Auckland Hospital Board yesterday decided to express its appreciation to the Government for the allocation of £20,000 to bo distributed by the hospital boards of New Zealand as a Christmas gratuity to recipients of relief. There Was a human touch about the allocation in that it would bring Christmas cheer to tho most depressed class of the community, it was stated.

The chairman of the Relief Committee, the Rev. W. C. Woods, stated that as soon as the Government had decided to assist relief workers his committee had agreed to request that some provision be made for charitable aid cases. Anticipating tho Government's action, they had written to the Minister asking that they be allocated an amount. In the meantime they had decided to prepare a plan for the distribution of a Christmas gratuity up to £1000, which would provide from 2/6 to 10/ each to the eases under their notice.

Mrs. M. Dreaver pointed out that tho relief allocation had been decided on by the Labour caucus some time ago. The secretary reported that the staff was at present working overtime preparing the lists on which-the distribution would be made, and making arrangements for the distribution.
