; MISS ANDERSON WINS. ] MRS. JACOBSEN'S FINE ROUjSHQ. I (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") . UPPER HUTT,- this day. The final round of the Mellsop Cup . yesterday afternoon saw Miss Anderson • retain the lead of eight strokes which she • had gained in the first two rounds to ; will from Mrs. Greenlees, another of the British players. Mrs. Walker took third I place, with Miss Kay, who had won the , event for the past nine years, fourth. The surprise of the afternoon was the , fine performance of Mrs. C. N. Jacobsen •! (Akarana), whose card of 78 led the field, , being a stroke better than the three Brit- • ishers. It will be recalled that Mrs. Jacobsen, while on a visit to England last year, played in the British ladies' championship and caused a sensation> in the first round by defeating an outstanding player in Miss Molly Gourlay. Mrs. Jacobsen a few years ago was the champion of Miramar, and then was on a 4 handicap. She has not played a great deal m recent seasons, and is now liberally handicapped on 9. As the result of her round yesterday she becomes the first winner of the Jessie Reid Memorial .Bowl, and also won trophies for the best gross and beat scores. Earlier in the tourney, in partnership with Mrs. Lan Stewart, she won I the handicap foursomes. The leading scores in the Mellsop Cup were:—Miss Anderson 226, Mrs. Greenlees 234, Mrs. Walker 236, Miss Kay 240, i Miss Barns Graham 248, Mrs. Jacobsen 248, Mrs. D. C; Collins (Wairarapa) 251, Mrs. E. F, Cook (Castlecliff) 251, Miss J Hornabrook (Masterton) 258, Mrs. E. L. Barker (Rotorua) 259, Miss P. Helean j (Seafield) 259. Miss E. M, Upton (Auckland) 259. j The district teams' match was won by Manawatu, with a total of 240, six strokes better than Auckland. The latter might have won had Mrs. J. Wilson not had a very poor round of 95. The Auckland scores were:—Mrs. Jacobsen 78, Mrs. Buttle 89, Miss Upton, 84, Mrs. Wilson 1 95.
