SEMI-FINALS.

N.Z. GOLF TOURNEY. MISS KAY DEFEATED. TWO BIUTISHERS LEFT IN. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") UPPER HUTT, this day. ,_ The semi-finals of the New Zealand ladies' golf tournament, played on the. Wellington Club's links at Heretaunga this morning, resulted:— Mrs; J. B. Walker (Britain) beat Miss O. Kay (Hawera), 5 and 3. Miss J. Andereon (Britain) beat Miss P. Wade (Britain), at the twenty-first. A remarkable exhibition of golf was given by Mrs. Walker in defeating Miss Oliver Kay. Though she was slightly better than the New Zealander through the fairways, it was the infallible putting of the visitor that swung the scale so decisively in her favour, and she sensationally finished the contest at the fifteenth hole by holing a chip of 50ft, giving her victory 5 and 3.

The two British players Mies Anderson and Miss Wade, who contesced the other semi-final, had a great struggle, with never more than a noie separating them, and it was not until the twenty-first hole was played that Miss Anderson won a victory which she really deserved, for she is a sounder player than Miss Wade.

Miss Kay was far from disgraced, for she played her beet golf of the tournament, and even though she went out in 38, including a 0 at the eighth, where her opponent left her a foot putt to hole and she failed, she was 3 down. Mrs. AValker played the first nine in 35, one under the standard figures. In this part oi the match Mrs. Walker holed two 9ft putts and two five-footers. The gallery waited a long time for her to miss one, but it seemed as if her green play was to be flawless. At last, however, on the twelfth, after having holed a 14footer for a "birdie" 3. at the eleventh, she made an error. Going boldly for a win in 4, Mis. Walker over-ran the hole by a yard, with a four-yard effort, and missed' the return. This gave Mies Kay her only win of the contest.
