a MECHANIC ADMITS CRIMES. , 3 ° LENIENCY NOT APPRECIATED, e (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) 1 HAMILTON, this day. t Charges of obtaining a five-seater car, f a motor cycle and three radio sets by r means of false pretences were admitted by John Henry Gill, aged 35, a motor • mechanic, at the Hamilton Police Court s to-day. Detective-Sergeant Thompson said that i accused was at present undergoing a i term of probation for false pretences. Gill told the Court he was tempted to commit the offences because he could get relief work only as a single man, and lie had two children to support. Mr. S. L. Patcrson, S.M., in sentencing Gill to three months' hard labour on each of the first four charges and two years' reformative detention on the other count, observed that leniency had been abused in the past and that the prisoner must be taught a sharp lesson.
