ATHLETIC GIRLS.
SUCCESSFUL REHEARSAL HELD. Neatly dressed in their trim uniforms, the girls of the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association made a picturesque scene on the sports ground at the Auckland Training College on Saturday afternoon, when they held a rehearsal for their display which takes place shortly. The association has been in existence for over ten years, starting a year after the Interhouse Association. The movement is a particularly fine one for girls. While it does not aim at military precision 01* any hard training, it encourages physical fitness and gives ample opportunity for girls in more or less sedentary positions to have firstclass sports in an organised and community spirit. For three months the girls have had training at the Drill Hall once a week. The training . includes physical drill and marching. The members of the association are any group of girls, including basketball clubs, church clubs and girls in factories and businesses. The .costumes worn are most attractive. They comprise tunics and shorts (for the running events) and a short skirt. The colours are gay and cleverly combined. The girls endeavour to design a picturesque as well as useful costume and judging by their appearance on Saturday afternoon they succeeded very well. The president of the association is Mrs. W. H. Cocker and the secretary is Miss Beryl Knight. Mr. Reid, of the Training College, trains the various teams at drill, and Miss Grace Hutton conducts the games. Miss Louden, headmistress of the Epsom Girls' Grammar School, is a vice-president, and the senior students of that school as well as those of the Diocesan High Schoal and St. Cuthbert's College act as stewards and referees for events in I connection with the association's programme.
