GUIDES AND BROWNIES.
The eighth birthday of the Te Puke brownies was celebrated in the Parish Hall recently, when tho District Commissioner, Mrs. F. Christian, of Tali* ranga, the l'ongakawa brownies, the Te Puke girl guides, parents and the local committee were present. '1 wo brownies, Tessa Pell and Pat Fletcher, were enrolled, as were two guides, Alice Saunders and June Nicholls. House orderly badges were presented to Paddy Knight, Peggy Burt and Mary BarroW, all three of whom are brownies. Recitations were given by Verna Washer and Gwen Phillips. The candles on the birthday cake were lit by the acting president, Mrs. Booker, who afterwards asked the brownies to accept a book as a present from the local committee. Mrs. Burt, Brown Owl, responded on behalf of tho brownies. The candles were blown out by Tessa Pell, who is the youngest brownie. Presents Were also received by the brownies from Mrs. Christian, tlie Pongakawa brownies, the girl guides, and Mrs. C. Anderson, of Motu, who, when in To Puke, was a member of the committee.
