UNEMPLOYMENT TAX.
. REDUCTION NEXT MONTH. ASSESSMENT OF WAGES. The re'duction from October 1 of the emergency unemployment tax from lOd to 8d in the £ applies only to salary or wages earned on or after that date and does not affect amounts earned before then, notwithstanding that payment may be made after September 30. Salary or wages paid for services performed during the week ending October 5 must be apportioned and the tax applied at the rate of lOd in the £ to one-sixth of the remuneration, and at the rate of 8d in the £ to the remaining five-sixths.
As..the reduction applies also to those instalments of the emergency unemployment tax on income other than salary or wages which full due on Or after November,., .1,;, the November and February instalments will be acceptcd at the reduced rate and taxpayers who paid the full year's tax in advance will be entitled >to a refund. Applications for such?refunds need not be made, as the Unemployment Board is arranging for thenefcessary adjustments to be made as soon as possible.
