RAILWAYMEN'S WAGES. WANT FULL CUTS BACK. Keen disappointment at the action of the Government in making only a7J per cent restoration in civil service salaries from October 1 was expressed at a specially called meeting of the Auckland branch of the New 1 Zealand Railway Officers' Institute. It was declared that the increase represented 3J per cent on the current year and that in consequence of conditions there had been injustice to public servants. The meeting passed a resolution expressing disappointment at the. partial and requested the executive committee to take such action as was possible to obtain full restoration. In view of the buoyant state of the country's finances, it was stated, the fact that the cost of living, was showing a marked increase and that many of the important service conditions had been lost or considerably modified made it imperative that the injustice to public servants should be remedied immediately. The meeting pledged itself to support /whatever action the executive might take to right what was held to be an ! injustice. A similar resolution was passed at a meeting by the Auckland branch ' of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants.
