" ROBERTA " WEDNESDAY.
J. C. WILLIAMSON COMPANY,
An unusually large demand for seats was evident when box plans were opened this morning for the approaching season of the J. C. Williamson musical comedy company, headed by Madge Elliott and Cyril Ritchard, which is to present for the first time in New Zealand at Hia Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday night next the spectacular musical comedy '"Roberta," which enjoyed record seasons in Australia. Madge Elliott and Cyril Ritchard are famous in Australia and London, but probably are even more popular with playgoers of New Zealand. They are backed up by a brilliant team of singers, dancers, and specialty artists, included among whom are Leo Franklyn, whose comedy work has been enjoyed over here in several successful musical plays; Ethel Morrison, who is regarded as one of the finest actresses the Australian and New Zealand stage has known; Frank Leigh ton, talented young Australian light comedian; Marie La Varre, clever London comedienne; Diane Du Cane, one of England's most popular musical comedy artists, who will make her first appearance in New Zealand on Wednesday evening; Field Fisher, wellknown character comedian; Jerry Connolly, Arthur Clarke, Mary Rigby, Leslie Crane, Charles Zoli, John Dobbie and other notable artists. The mannequin parade is a feature of the production of "Koberta," and other features are the ballets and the stage settings. Only six nights can be devoted to "Roberta," and a matinee will be staged to-morrow week. "High Jinks" will then be staged for five nights, and the final production will be "Our Mise Gibbe."
