MILK FOR SCHOOLS.
POSSIBLE WAY OF SUPPLY.
SUGGESTION TO COUNCIL.
A suggestion that the amount of j<l a gallon by which the levy on milk made by the Metropolitan Milk Council will bo reduced after June 1 should be devoted to the pureliu'sc and distribution of milk anion;* school children was made by Mr. J. Tlaslam at a meeting of the council this morning. At a special meeting earlier in the month the council reduced its lew after June 1 from Id to id, the other Jd, to be added to the dairyman's price. "The vendor would not suffer any reduction of his present figure and this Jd would give MOO children half a pint of milk it day," declared Mr. Haslam. Mr. IT. F. W. Meiklc asked if the council had any power to assume control of the Jd now. The acting-chairman, Mr, S. Takle, said the council could not now take the money in hand. He suggested Mr. Haslam should bring a proposal from the dairymen concerned before the v council, lie felt sure the council's officers would co-operate heartily in carrying out any such scheme. "There is a lot of merit in the proposal,,, remarked Mr. 11. }\ Burton, who also said the council could do nothing. No action war* taken, the matter being left open to Mr. Haslam to approach the dairymen.
