WATER PIPES.

METHOD OF RECONDITIONING. Over 100 members of the New Zealand Society of Engineers were taken to Bannerman Road, Mount Albert, yesterday, and were greatly interested in a demonstration of a method of reconditioning long stretches of iron water piping while the piping was still underground. Mr. Hendry Luke, managing director of the Napier Concrete Company, had arranged the demonstration, and for the tost a length of 200 ft of 4in piping, which had been in use for 18 years, was chosen.

The two ends of the pipe length are exposed, and through the pipe are pulled cutters, plungers and thick moss, a steel rope being used. Into the lower end of the piping is then forced a smooth concrete and a torpedo-shaped spreader is hauled through. The result of this is a quarter-inch smooth lining of concrete. It is claimed that the treatment gives a much clearer passage of water and eliminates all danger of leaks.
