MARKET ACTIVE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The markets were very active this horning, 24 sales being i>ut through on Change and one in reported business. Of these, II were mining. Commercial Banks were firm from J6/7 to 10/8, and New South Wales Quotations were close, between ±61 5/ and £31 10/. The demand for Bank ot New: Zealand ordinary and D Mortgage shares was well sustained at last -week s closing figures. In the miscellaneous section Consolidated Brick were quoted 3d on either side of 10/. British Tobacco held the lately improved rates. Dunlops were at slightly lower levels, the market closing a little hesitant from 19/3 to 19/8. Kauri Timber, at 2d on either side of 19/, were considerably lower than the price recorded in Wellington on Saturday. Brian Born had the largest turnover in the mining section, 4000 shares changing hands at a 2d rise. Quotations for King Solomon looked stronger between 3/9 and 3/10. Mount Lyell were "widely quoted at firmer rates, and Okarito in reported business gained 6d. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
