THIS MORNING'S WORK.

SOME SMART EFFORTS. KILTOWYN'S SOLID PERFORMANCE. Weather and track conditions were excellent for tlie final gallops at Ellerslie this morning in connection with the Takapuna Jockey Club's spring meeting. The course proper, on which the poles

were 30ft out from the rails, was open, and most of the fast work was done on this track. Ko. 3 grass was also available, but it was not in much demand. Some first-class efforts were recorded, among them being those of Kiltowyn, King Musk, Kelly, Mata Hari, Baroscope and Marching Song. The Course Proper. The stableiiKites, Merry Lap and On Parade, were the first to work, being sent five furlongs. They ran the first two in 2G l-ss, and the full distance in 1.5 1-5. They finished practically on terms, being kept up to their work throughout. Thespis gave Wee Pat and Kilniuir about three lengths' start over a round, the pair beating him home in 2.18 4-5. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.40 4-5, and the final half mile

in 56 2-ss. Although beaten Thespis was going easily at the finish. Karangapai ran right away from Hushing at the conclusion of six furlongs, which occupied I.J'J, tlie first three taking 38 l-ss. After running their first three furlongs in 40 l-os, Barn Dance and My Money completed six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. They finished together. Kelly was a couple of lengths ahead ot Midian at the conclusion of six furlongs run in 1.18, the first three being covered in 37 3-ss. Kelly did his work in firstrate style. The Cup candidates, Gay Marigold and Gay Broney ran a mile in 1.45, the last half taking 53 2-ss. • Gay Marigold was doing the better of the pair at the finish.

Jalldy Karo finished up his work by runnirig six furlongs in 1.22. He did it comfortably. Air Lassie finished in front of . the . Romeo—Akahau gelding atter traversing five furlongs in 1.4 4-5, the last half mile taking 51 2-ss. Both these maidens are on the improve. Courthaven worked alone over a mile, which she completed in 1.45, running the last three furlongs in 41s. Express was going better than Eudorace, with Notamint a couple of lengths away, at the end of liaif a mile in 52 l-ss. Express put plenty of dash into her work. The best effort of the morning over five furlongs was that of Mata Hari, who beat Chief Emerald and Psychologist easily in 1.3 2-5. She ran the lSst two in 24 l-ss, and. was running on solidly at the end. King Mesior and King Musk were associated over six furlongs, which occupied 1.17, the best of the morning over the distance. They ran the first three in 37 3-ss. King Mestor being a couple of lengths in front at this stage, which- was reduced to a length at the post. - King Musk was going the better of the pair at the finish. Gold Pocket was going better than Master Rex

after traversing five furlongs in I.S 2-5. They ran the first two in 25 3-ss, and were easing up at the finish. Sir Abb and Lord Val, after running their first furlong in 12 3-5s were timed to run half a mile in 50 4-ss. Lord Val was holding Sir. Abb at the finish, l>ut the latter impressed for a novice. After taking 26s to run her first two furlongs, Mountain Breeze got to the end of five furlongs in 1.6 3-5. She was staying on at the finish. Gascelle was not doing his best to run a similar distance.in 1.11 2-5. The maidens, Vera Acre and Temonatekapa were timed to run half a mile in 52 2-ss. the former impressing most. After Breakfast. Kiltowyn, with his stablemate, Tai-Yang to assist him over the first three furlongs, ran the fastest mile that has been run on this track for some time, when the distance the poles were out from the rails is taken into consideration. They ran the first two-furlongs in 23 4-ss, and three in 37 l-ss, Tai-Yang then dropping out. Kiltowyn continued on alone, running the first half ■ mile in 49 3-ss, five in 1.1 4-5, and completed the full distance in 1.42. He carried just on 9.0, and it was a firstclass performance. Tai-Yang displayed brilliant speed, being about a length and a half in front of Kiltowyn when he was eased up at the three-furlong post. Baroscope and Marching Song were on term 3, with Princess Bede several lengths away after completing seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5 The first three furlongs weye covered

in 37 3-ss, and Baroscope appeared r,o bo doing the better of the pair at the end. Capella Abbey strode over seven furlongs in 1.37 3-5, and Overdue was 'holding Princess Marina safely at the conclusion of three furlongs in 39 2-53. The latter is showing promise. The two-year-old, Arniacourt, was not bustled to run home from the three-furlong post in 38 1-5.3. Monanui, after running her first half mile in 545, got to the end of seven furlongs in 1.33. She was doing her work nicely at the finish. Miss Dazzle was in front of Ornamental after traversing a round in 2.7 2-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.34 1-5, and the final half in 55 l-os. Miss Dazzle is in great order for her engagements at the meeting. Miss Lulu was doing better than the Musketoon filly at the end of six furlongs,' the last five taking 1.9 2-5. Flammarion was going very easily throughout six furlongs, running the distance in 1.21. Palrado sprinted half a mile in 51 3-ss. This was a useful effort, as she has had little experience. No. 3 Grass. Killadar strode over a round in 2.1 3-5. He was going very easily throughout. Royal Appellant and. Hawthorn, after running their first three furlongs in 3-S l-ss, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.19 4-5, the former showing to most advantage. On. the Tan. Scotland and Master Norval were out. doing pace work on this track. Absent, Glenhaupo and Mountain Bruce were in that order at the end of six furlongs, being timed to run the last half-mile in 57 2-ss. The Jumpers. Gay Sol (Fergus) gave a safe display over a couple of pony hurdles, and was afterwards sent over the four big ones in the centre. He cleared the first two in good style, but came to grief at the third. Glenhaupo (Baker) was tried over the pony hurdles, her display being satisfactory. Morratli (McDowell) and Archeen (Mcßae) gave a good exhibition over four hurdles. They had plenty of pace on, Morrath always having a shade the better of the bout. Copey (R. E. Thompson) j>:mped the big fences on the flat, getting through his task in a satisfactory manner. Town Beauty (F. Thomson), Neil (MeTirov) and Domo (Baker) gave a good exhibition over the same .obstacles. They trotted round and repeated the performance, finishing up by jumping the brush fence at the mile-post.
