RACING AT ELLERSLIE.

TAKAPUNA MEETING.

THE FIRST DAY. ACCEPTORS FOR SATURDAY. The spring meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club will open at Ellerslie on Saturday, and excellent fields are engaged in the various events.

Thirteen remain, in the Alison Cup, the chief event of the day, and all of them have good form to their credit this season. King's Knave was placed in the open sprint at Te Rapa last Saturday, and also in the Hamilton Handicap, one mile, on Monday, while Kiltowyn ran third in the Flying Handicap, seven furlongs, at Ellerslie. Gay Marigold won two sevenfurlong events at the recent Avondale lr. eeting, and followed this up by annexing the Hamilton Handicap at Te Rapa last Monday. Carfex and Master Norval ran second and third respectively in the Avondale Cup, the latter winning the Plumpton Handicap, one mile and a quarter, on the second day. Gay Blonde won both the Great Northern and Avondale Guineas, and ran so well at the end that, with 7.13, she should be in the picture. She galloped brilliantly this morning over a mile. Royal Artist was second in the King Edward Memorial, one mile and'a quarter, at Ellerslie, and later occupied a similar position in the Plumpton Handicap at Avondale. Lord Yal won at Cambridge, and also at Wliangarei, while Gay Broney looks as though he will soon improve on his Wliangarei efforts. Baroscope was successful at Paeroa, while Killadar was placed at Te Rapa. Alloy scored over a mile at Wliangarei, and was placed over a similar distance at Te Rapa. Monanui won the Wliangarei Cup, one mile and a quarter recently, and is by no means out of it. The event should be a most interesting one.

Rereatu has been a most consistent performer this season, and after his dual success at Ellerslie, with 8.1 and 8.11, and his second to Sinking Fund at Avondale with 9.1, lie will have some friends in the Cheltenham Handicap. British Columbia showed a return to form by winning the Kirikiriroa Handicap, six furlongs, at Te Rapa on Monday, while Star Artist was only beaten by half a head by Scotland in the Cambridge Handicap, six furlongs, at the same meeting. She is a brilliant sprinter, and looks as though she is now right back to her best form. Arch Ruler ran well at Whangarei, winning two sixfurlong events, while Rerepai was successful in the Champion Hack Plate, seven furlongs, at Avondale. If both he and Rereatu start they will be bracketed. Silver Jubilee has proved himself a brilliant hack, winning over seven furlongs and six furlongs respectively at Avondale, and also over a mile at Te Rapa, in his last three starts. He has only been once out of a place since he commenced his racing career this season. He is also engaged in the Ponui Hack, one mile, but if reserved for the Cheltenham Handicap he should keep the opposition busy. Hushing looks the best of the others.
