TAKANINI TRIALS.

GAY BLONDE'S MILE. A TRACK RECORD. Although cutting out a little the middle glass track, which was in use at Takanini this morning, was in excellent order, and some fast work was witnessed, Gay Blonde putting up the smartest effort over a mile that has ever been recorded there. Flood Tide (Fearn) and Fei-Mah (Goldfinch} worked at an easy pace from the-half-mile post to the tliree furlongs, and then sprinted home in 37 4-ss, the lormer, who had the inside running, being just in front at the finish. Gay JLSlonde (Tilsley) ran a mile in 1.3S 4-5. Safari (Hart) was to have accompanied her from the five-furlong post, but broke away, and actually only came home with her over the last half-mile. Gay Blonde ran her first two furlongs in 245, three in 3(is, four in 47 2-ss, and live in f.O 2-5. T. Green will ,probably ride her in the Alison Cup on Saturday. iNun Nicer (Fearn) and Matorni (Goldfinch) were sent six furlongs, the former getting a two lengths' advantage at the start, and being that distance in front at the finish in I.la 2-5. With an even start there would have been little between the pair. Botli these hacks have been working well recently. High Crest (Clifford) gave Lap Up (Howard) a length's start at the halt'uule post, and was a shade in front at the end in 50 3-ss. Gay Sheik (Tinker) got into his stride quicker than High Tea (Hart) at the half-mile post, but after the latter got up to liim at the end of a furlong Gay Sheik again went away, and had & couple of lengths to spare at the finish, in 41) 3-ss. For a novice High Tea's effort was pleasing. Ballymouey (Glynn) jumped away about four lengths fn front of Lifeguard (Goldfinch) at the half-mile post, and was a couple of lengths in front of him at the finish in 41) 2-ss, Lifeguard's time being 48 4-ss. Both went nicely. The Appellant gelding (Tinker) was given an easy three furlongs, which he covered in 425. Lord Willonyx (Goldfinch), Enlightenment (Forsyth) and Kilonsoa (Glynn) were in that order, with heads between them, at the end of half a mile in 525, but they were not doing their best.

The Hiker (Hart) and Havering (Miles) were yesterday schooled over four hurdles, the pair giving an excellent exhibition. R. Miles will ride the former on Saturday and the latter on Monday.

Tray Bit, who is well fancied for the Takapuna Plate, was sore behind after returning from the track yesterday, and was an absentee this morning. It is hoped that he will be sufficiently recovered to keep his engagement, but this morning he was regarded as a doubtful starter.
