LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ROSKILL. A meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board was held last night, Mr. C. M. McCullough presiding. Proposed Morgue.—l'fie board agreed to meet in conference with Onehunga, One Tree Hill and the Manukau County Council to consider providing a central morgue for these districts.

Transport.-—The Auckland Transport Board cannot accede to the board's request for an improved time-table to the Three Kings tram terminus, as the loadings arc generally satisfactory. The Transport Board also declined to install a "crosscountry" bus service in Mount Roskill, the volume of traffic being held insufficient.

Tenders.—lHje council accepted the tender of £(> 11/G per annum received from Mr. A. Chillam for the grazing rights of the Three Kings Reserve, and Mr. W. B. Stevens' tender of .€l3 10/ per annum for the lease of the Carlton Reserve.

Taxi Stand and. Telephone.—The board approved of the establishment of a taxi stand and the installation of a telephone at the junction of Mount Albert and Three Kings Roads, opposite the Veterans' Home, by a city firm. Metropolitan Water Board.—The board has no objection to the formation of a Metropolitan Water Board, provided that there is no interference with existing contracts. Municipal Buildings. — Approval was given of the proposal to raise a loan of £8500 for the erection and equipment of municipal offices, as reported in the "Star" last night. The one objection, although received after the closing date, will be forwarded with the application. Demand for Work.—The board received 118 applications for the position of truck driver. These were reduced to six by a committee, and the final selection was made by ballot last night, when Mr. H. D. Howie was appointed. OTAHUHU. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last nigh';, the Mayor, "Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Relief Work.—The Labour Department advised the council that £50 was allocated for filling in Hutton Street. Sturgess Park.—The Otahuhu Rugby Football Club forwarded £20 towards the cost of flood-lighting Sturgess Park. It also expressed sincere thanks to the council and caretaker for the assistance it had received. , Water From the City.—The works committee reported that the City Council had advised that its offer to supply water to the borough by laying a 10-inch main to Portage Road would remain open for two months. After a discussion in committee the council decided to take a postal ballet among ratepayers. Jf this ballet is favourable a poll will be taken of all residents, as this matter can only be finally settled through a general vote.

Loan Conversion.—The town clerk reported that the response to the conversion scheme had been most gratifying. Out of a total of £135,635 applications totalling £125,060 had been received, leaving a balance of £10,575

Rate Receipts.—Up to October 31 the sum of £1700, or 27.1 per cent, had been paid on account. At the same date last year the total was 27.6 per cent.

Princes Street Corner.—The works committee reported that the cost of altering the southern corner of Princes Street and the Great South Road would be £33 for material, and recommended that the matter be deferred for future consideration. iHr. T!. B. Todd was not satisfied with this report, and moved that the question of the cost be referred to the finance committee. This course was adopted after a debate.
