BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tlio Birkenhead Borough Council met Inst evening, the Mayor, Mr. George Mills, presiding. Vacant Scat.—lt was decided not to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. K. R. Ilayman, who has removed to
Wellington. Mr. Albert Iladfield was appointed to the Birkenhead Fire Board in his stead.
Pictures on Christmas Night.—Permission to screen pictures on Christmas night at the local theatre was grafted.
City Water.—Now that the borough is taking its water supply from the Auckland city, the question arose as to the upkeep of the pumping plant at Lake Ptipuke. A letter from the Citv Council pointed out that it could not undertake this, which
would be equivalent to a variation of clause !) of the agreement in favour of the borough if the city were to maintain an alternative source of supply for the benefit of Birkenhead. The water committee is to consider the matter further.
Water For County.—lt was agreed to supply the Takapuna riding of the Waitemata County with water at 2/ per thousand gallons, less l%d, or 1/10V4 net, for payment within 2S days of invoice, the cost of necessary mains to the point of delivery at the junction of Taharoto and Northcote roads, at Takapuna, to' be borne by the Waitemata Council.
