Mr. Lansbury Declines to Accede To Cabinet Request.

REASON FOR SURRENDER,

(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 7. It is officially explained that no significance attaches to the Cabinet's request that former Ministers and the executors of deceased Ministers should return Cabinet documents. The request was not connected with the publication of memoirs, but was inspired by the possibility of documents falling into the wrong hands. There have been instances of documents finding their way to bookstalls. Some Ministers have returned their papers, the only case of positive refusal being Mr. George Lansbury, who was Commissioner of Works in the Labours Ministry. "MASTERLY STROKE." Signor Mussolini, by a masterly stroke, has arranged the secret engagement of the Archduke Otto of Austria to Princess Maria, youngest daughter of the King of Italy.
