INTOXICATION CHARGE.
MOTOR DRIVER EINED £5. A motor car and light truck were locked tightly together, radiator against radiator, in a collision which occurred about (i.l;> p.m. on Saturday in Franklin Road, Ponsonby. Police were early upon the scene, and arrested the driver of one of the vehicles, George Langley Thomas Bradley, aged 29, and he appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court this morning charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor vehicle. Bradley, for whom Mr. Hall Skclton appeared, pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Edwards said that after the accident accused was brought to the lock-up, where he was examined by Dr. Hastings, who gave a certificate that Bradle/ was under the influence of alcohol and that lie had taken sufficient to impair his judgment.
"Bradley's driving in no way contributed to the collision, and the driver of the other vehicle may yet be prosecuted," added the sub-inspector. Mr. Skelton said that the police had fairly stated the position. "After the accident he telephoned the police and also kept the driver of the other vehicle from running away, so he was in possession of all his faculties," said counsel. "The other vehicle ran into his. My client has never been in any trouble previously, and he is a mechanic employed in the city." The magistrate said he would take into account the fact that he had pleaded guilty, that there was nothing previously against his character, and that although mildly intoxicated the accident was in no way due to him. Bradley was fined 15.
