TREASURER HONOURED.
PRESENTATION AND SPEECHES
Tribute to the services given to the code by the retiring treasurer, Mr. Fred WEllis, was paid by the Auckland Rugby League members at a dinner held at Hotel Auckland last evening,, when all units in the game were represented at a very enthusiastic gathering. The patron, Mr. J. Donald, referred to the loss suffered by the Auckland League by the departure of Mr. Ellis, and hoped that he would be restored to health, and soon return to Auckland. Mr. W. O. Carlaw, on behalf of the New Zealand Rugby League, referred to tlie valuable assistance also given by their guest to the national body. Mr. Ivan Culpan (secretary of the Auckland League), said he deeply felt the temporary loss of an esteemed colleague after an association of 15 years. Messrs. E. K. Asher, on behalf of the clubs, Mr. A._ GMcCowatt, for the Referees' Association, and H. S. Brisbane, Marist Club captain, for the players, united in wishing Mr. Ellis bon voyage and a happy return. Mr. Donald presented the guest with an inscribed tea and coffee service. In thanking the donors for the sincere evidence - of appreciation, Mr. Ellis said he was proud to have merited the honour accorded him, and particularly to have had the opportunity to serve the code for a long period. The announcement that Mr. Donald, who had offered a special trophy earlier in the season, had now decided instead to make a donation to the grandstand fund, was received with acclamation.
