TO FILL THE CHURCHES

PROMINENT HOME PREACHERS

DR. NORWOOD'S OPINION.

At an interview with Dr. P. W. Norwood before he left Auckland, the doctor was asked his opinion whether he thought eminent preachers of the Homeland could be induced to visit the Dominion for periods of six months or more, with the view of filling the pulpits of our city churches. He replied that it was rather singular that this question should be asked him, for he had been interviewed regarding the same matter in China, Japan, India, Australia, and only last week in the Southern cities of this Dominion. It seemed, therefore, as if there were a general desire on behalf of the people to both see and hear the outstanding preachers of the day. Dr. Norwood further expressed the opinion that it would be quite possible to secure a suitable man for St. Andrew's Church, if the proposal to co-operate with Scots Church, Sydney, did not eventuate. The doctor added that he would willingly give to any inquirer the benefit of his own experience, and such information as he had of New Zealand conditions, and Auckland in particular. He was in entire sympathy with the movement, which lie believed would be in the best interest of Church and State.
