MEANT FOR GANDHI.
i Bomb Thrown During Civic ; Reception. . ■ i ORTHODOX HINDU ENEMIES, i CALCUTTA, June 26. Seven people, including high municipal officers and several children, were in- '• jured at Poona last night, when a bomb intended for the Indian Nationalist leader Gandhi fell among a crowd i which had assembled to witness his arrival at the municipal buildings to receive a civic address. The bomb was flung from a balcony when a car, presumed to be Gandhi's, stopped. One wheel of the vehicle was blown off. Policemen surrounded the building and arrested five men. Gandhi arrived seven minutes later but was not informed of the incident until he entered the hall. Gandhi left later for Ahmedabad. It is presumed that the crime was the work of orthodox Hindus, who are bitterly opposed to his social campaign.
