WINTER MILKING.
VIEWS OF SCIENTIST. EXPERIMENT SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A plea for the greater recognition of the need for winter milking was made by Dr. H. E.. Annette, dairy scientist, to-day, when addressing the Waikato Winter Farm School. Dr. Annette maintained that the market position warranted a change. Denmark owed her position on the British market largely to the fact that she was able to maintain a fresh supply, brought out during the whole year. There was a disparity between Danish and New Zealand butter prices during the off-season, owing to no fresh supply being available for export from the Dominion. Tho butter which went to England in September had been stored for five or six months. Moreover, the stored butter was usually produced at tho end of the cow's lactation period, and was therefore of inferior quality fat.
It was considered by Dr. Annette that success would attend the experiment of holding a quarter or a third of the stock back for winter milking.
