EMPIRE GAMES.
N.Z. TEAM'S SEND-OFF.
DEPARTURE FROM AUCKLAND,
The New Zealand Empire Games team will assemble at Auckland on tlie morning of Friday week, June 8, and prior to embarking on the Remuera for England will bo briefly addressed by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, at the Town Hall, expressing Auckland's good wishes for a pleasant voyage and success by members of the team. This informal gathering will be held at noon on Friday, when it is hoped that there will be a large assembly of the leaders and followers of the various sports. As tho Remuera does not sail until Saturday, the Games Committee in Wellington had hoped to be able to arrange for a formal send-off function on Friday evening at which enthusiastic supporters of the various spoits concerned would be given an opportunity to make the occasion a notable one, and probably help augment the funds through whose medium the young athletes are sent to compete with outstanding rivals from other parts of the Umpire. The short notice, however, combined with the fact that a Friday night in Auckland holds out the least hope of success for such a function, resulted in tho original idea being dropped in favour of the informal public greeting at the Town Hall at noon.
