STATION BURGLARY.
VAIN ATTEMPT AT THEFT.

CAMBRIDGE, this day.
The Cambridge railway station was entered through the office window about 2.45 this morning and an unsuccessful attempt was made to blow open the station safe in the stationmaster s ottice, ■gelignite being used. Nothing was stolen, though the safe contained £10 in cash and notes and the station books. The burglars drilled two holes about an inch deep at the edge of the iron door. The safe being solidly let into the concrete withstood the explosion, which was .heard by residents a quarter of a mi e awav. The "job" appears to have been the work of amateurs, though the burglars attempted to deaden the sound witli . Last night, when the station staff left the office, everything was locked up as usual. The burglary was discovered by the stationmaster, Mr. A. P. L. Andrew, at 6.30 this morning.
