LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.

TAKAPTJNA. The May meeting of the Takapima branch of the League of Mothers was held last Monday, Mrs. Reynolds presiding. Mrs. Reynolds read a most interesting and instructive paper by Mrs. Carr-Rollett on cr New Zealand Authors," and traversed the cultural life of this country during the last fifty years. MANUREWA. The May meeting was held in the Town Hall, Mrs. Roberts presiding. The speaker for the afternoon was "Aunt Jean," from IYA, who gave a radio talk and sang two songs. Afternoon tea was served, and the meeting closed with community singing and the National Antl'om. MOUNT EDEN. The monthly meeting was held last week, 50 members being present. The meeting w%s taken by the members, and tonk the form of a "magazine." The thought was "The ladder of life is full of splinters, but \ve don't feel them until we slide down." Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. NGAHAPE. The usual monthly meeting of this branch was held at the residence of Mrs. Andrews. A short article on "Woman Police in England" was read by Mrs. Andrews, and gave an idea of tho work they did and the need they have filled. A presentation was made to Mrs. Moncrief Wright, who is leaving the district. Mrs. Moncrief-Wright liacl been secretary to the branch for two years, and is an original member and settler. ONEHUNGA. The monthly meeting was largely attended by mothers and their children, the latter numbering about 50. The president, Mrs. W. Jordan, welcomed the speaker, the Rev. Thompson, who gave the children a splendid address on "Smiles," and this was followed by a talk to mothers. Musical items were given by visiting ladies, while elocutionary items were contributedl by the children. MOUNT ALBERT. The monthly meeting was held on Thursday, Mrs. M. Turner presiding. Mrs. Cluett gave an interesting address on the life and work of Bishop G. A. Selwyn. The speaker told of the wonderful work he did in making the college self-supporting, carrying on farm work with European and Maori boys, as well as scholastic work. Mrs. Cluett gave some very interesting reminiscences, and described the Selwyn churches, which which are full of associations. The nollege had the first printing press in Auckland, and St. John's College was still doing its good work. Miss Olive Pearce and Mrs. Blomfield sang, and ■Mrs. Hutchinson contributed the thought for the month. RAWENE. There was a large attendance of the members of the above league in the County Hall recently to welcome the provincial president of the League of Mothers, Mrs. S. O. English, who is touring the North, accompanied by her son, Mr. Lloyd English, and Mrs. H. F. Thronson. Mrs. R. B. Russell, president of the Rawene branch, in a short speech, welcomed Mrs. English on behalf of the members. Mr. Clendon then presented Mrs. English with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. In replying, Mrs. English was greeted with applause, and in expressing thanks for the welcome, she spoke of the aims and objects of the league. The thought for the month -was given by Mrs. Brindle, and the hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Loftus. In the evening a large number of members and friends with their husbands again gathered in the County Hall to greet Mrs. English. Mrs. Russell again presided at the function, and eaid how pleased she was to see so many present. She then introduced Mrs. English, who gave a vivid picture of her trip in 1930 to the Passion Play as she saw it in Obe'rammergau. Tho Rev. Grice proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. English for her inteiesting address. Mr. H. W. Gish sang "When Shadows Gather,", and Mrs. Wilson sang "My Kingdom." Supper was served by the ladies, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Russell.
