the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board to a letter from the Auckland Harbour Board urging the establishment of a metropolitan drainage district ana 'requesting the board to promote } e lation with that end in view at the earliest possible moment. Sir. Golds tine said it appeared that a local body that did not have to find any of the cost was attempting to dictate to local bodies ill respect to a proposal, the carrying out of which meant huge expense on the ratepayers. The Harbour Board should be informed that the Drainage Board would do nothing until all the local bodies had made a decision 011 the question. Mr. E. J. Phelan suggested that the Harbour Board should put its own house in order and pay a little more attention to the shipping. Mr. A. J. Entrican: The less said the better.

Mr. M. J. Coyle said that if the Drainage Board "commenced a controversy in respect to harbour pollution there would lie a rebound. "Let sleeping dogs lie," lie urged. The letter was received. „
