FEDERAL ELECTION.
Rumour Dispelled by Country Party Official. AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. (United r.A.—Electric Telegraph-Copyriglit) (Received 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, this clay. Rumours were current of a possible Federal election about September, but it is now understood that the electorates will not be consulted till next year.
The general secretary of the United Australia party, commenting on the recent speeches of Dr. Earle Page, leader of the party, declared that it was necessary to be ready for an election at any time, but there was no reason at present to suppose that one would come before the ordinary time.
AUSTRALIA'S COAST. Defences to Include at Least Ten 9.2 in Guns. POLICY INVOLVES £400,000. (Received 10.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. For the protection of vital coastal points, at least 10 9.2 in guns are likely to be obtained for the Commonwealth. This will be part of the defence policy in the next financial year, and the cost will be £400,000.
