"LISTENING IN."

WIRELESS IN SCHOOLS. EDUCATIONAL BROADCASTS. Over 5000 children regularly "listen in" to wireless broadcasts of an educational nature, according to a report made by Mri.E. G. Jones, schools broad, casting officer, at to-day's ■ meeting of the Auckland Education Board. It was stated that 98 schools were "listening in." In 58 cases the wireless sets were in the school building, and in the 40 other cases the sets were in a neighbouring residence. Sixty-two of the sets were electric and 36 of the battery type, while the number of valves ranged from two to nine. Regarding reception, Mr. Jones said that it was good in 70 schools, medium to good in 7, medium in 15, and poor in 5, with ope "unspecified." The total number of children listening in was 5083. Excluding infants and Standards I. and 11., the total was 4023.
