Bowling Final

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS.

McMaster Meets Lancaster — Two-Lifers Fail in 7th Round.

The champion of champions tournament of the Auckland Bowling Centre was resumed this morning on the Carlton greens. The weather was dull and threatening, but with an entire absence of the tricky gusts o£ wind which disconcerted some o£ the players yesterday. The five rounds which were completed yesterday had reduced the original 28 club champions to five, two surviving with two "lives," having not suffered a defeat yesterday, viz., Alex Moon (To Papapa) and W. J. Short (Pukekohe), while the other three had each sustained one loss, viz., R. McMaster : (Stanley), W. Bremner (West End) and W. A. Lancaster (Carlton). . j Under the rules of the automatic draw in the two-life system, the bye required when there are an -odd number of players is given to the "top" player on „the chart, usually a two-liter, but on this occasion it went to McMaster, a one-lifer, as both of the two-lifers had already had one, Moon in the fifth round and Short in the third round. To-day's results:— Sitfth Round. R. McMaster (Stanley), a bye. W. J. Short (Pukekohe) 22, beat A. Moon (Te I'apapa) 13. W. A. Lancaster (Carlton) 24, beat W. Bremner (West End) 14. In neither case did the scores indicate the nature of the play, which was very close until nearing the end. Moon was not getting his drives with the accuracy he had shown the previous day, which accounted for his failure in the closing heads. Bremner was eliminated. Seventh Round. Lancaster 24, beat Short 7. McMaster 24, beat Moon 4. Both games were such complete runaways that it was not necessary to play the last few heads. There was an extraordinary reversal of form this morning, for the only two-lifers who survived Tuesday's play failed to reach double figures in this round. Lancaster drew the bye, and went into the final to meet the winner of the Short-Mc-Master match, Moon having been eliminated. Semi-final. McMaster 20, beat Short 11. Final. At 2.45 p.m., with five heads gone, Lancaster was leading McMaster by 5 points to 4. It was a keen struggle, practically every head being won by the very last bowl.
