RATES FOB CITY TREASURY. Rates continue to flow into the City Treasury. Legal proceedings were instituted against all property owners who were in arrear, and had failed to make satisfactory arrangements, and the result has been satisfactory. Up to last night £424,111 of the current year's rates had been paid-in, and £65,224 of arreas and penalties. Of the total amount due to the treasury over So J per cent has already been collected. This is equal to 99J per cent of the budgeted amount. The council estimated that £494,000 would be collected in current year's rates and arrears, and so far £489,335 has been collected, leaving £4665 still to come in. Treasury officials anticipate that most of the deficiency will be made up before the end of the financial year.
