many slips on roads. RESULTS OF HEAVY RAIN. J * (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Thursday. Exceptionally heavy rain fell on the West Coast to-day, causing a washout on the Midland Railway, flooded livers and' slips on roads. . e A fall of an inch and a quarter oi rain was recorded at Greymouth in 1U hours. Several streams are flooded. A washout occurred on the Midland Railway this side of Rotomanu, 30 miles I from Greymouth. It delayed the overland express, with 180 passengers, for nearly five hours. The line was left suspended for a - distance of a chain. Over tins section the passengers walked on planting. To-night repairs have been made and traifflK&re running overland. On the coast roads a series of slips occurred four miles south of Charleston, 19 miles north of Westport. Service cars expect to reach Westport late to-night.
