SMOKING IN THEATRE.
FOUR YOUNG MEN FINED. Four young men, Melville Bernard Nott, Ivor Kelly, John Woodward and Lionel James Paul, were charged at the Pukekohe Police Court yesterday with smoking in tlie Strand Tlie&tre, Pukekohe, on December 29 last, contrary to the borough by-laws. Mr. S. McKinnon, a member of the Pukekohe Fire Brigade, said he noticed the young men smoking, so he explained that it was prohibited. They put their cigarettes out, but later in the evening they were again smoking in the theatre, so he took their names, with the exception of Paul who refused to give his. A police constable had to be called, and Paul had then given his name. These offences were regarded as serious by the Fire Board. ... Each of the accused waa convicted and fined 10/ and costs.
