NEGLIGENT MOTORIST. CAUGHT BY POLICE OFFICER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.); CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. With a constable standing on the running-board of his car, and blocked from getting any further, Francis Jeremiah Carey recently drove a ehort distance down Durham Street, although he had been asked by the officer, who held the opinion that he was not in a fit state to drive, to go to the police station. Carey, described as a warehouseman, aged 26, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day to driving a car in a negligent manner on December 21, and to driving without lights. On the first charge he was fined £3, and costs, and on the second 10/ and coets.
