LINER DESIGN.

NEW ORIENT STYLE BETTER FOR PASSENGERS. A single funnel, and only one mast on a liner built to carry 1150 passengers will be unu3ual features about the new Orient liner to be built in Great Britain. Specifications for the ship show that additional room will be provided for deck amusements for passengers by tho elimination of the second tooiler room, and the installation of water-tube boilers. By this means the designers are able to dispense with the second funnel, and more space is also provided below decks. The ship will probably employ 3300 men for eighteen months on its construction. The engines, twin-screw turbines, will burn oil fuel, and their horsepower will be 24,000, giving a speed greater than that of the Orontes. In view of the possibility of the development of the Australian chilled Beef trade, cargo space has been arranged, and small cliamJbers have been allowed for the carrying of special shipments. The new ship's overall length will be 655 ft, and the beam will be substantially increased to permit of larger cabins. She carries 475 first and 675 tourist class passengers. First-class cabins are fitted with bedsteads and hot and cold water. There will be numerous private bathrooms. The games deck is larger and freer of encumbrances than those of previous Orient liners. There will be epecial children's decks and playrooms for both classes.
