FACTORIES ACT.
J BREACHES IN AUCKLAND? COMPLAINT TO MINISTER. (By TelegTaph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRLSTCHURCH, this day. Allegations that an Auckland nmnufacturing firm has committed breaches of the Factories Act have been made by the Federal Council of the New Zealand Federated Clothing Trades Union, which has its headquarters in Christchurch. Under instruction from the council, the secretary, Mr. J. Roberts, has written to the Minister of Labour stating that girls employed by the firm have had to work overtime without payment, and that girls have been employed five nights a week — conditions which it is contended no Labour Department would sanction. Another complaint is that the firm paid girls less for work during overtime hours than was paid during ordinary working hours. The secretary says that the council's informant is prepared to sign a sworn statement substantiating the charges.
