ORPHANS WANTED.
SHORTAGE IN OTAGO HOMES. ASSET FOR UNEMPLOYED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. All Dunedin orphanages are short of children. The Anglicans have closed their girls' home and the Presbyterians propose closing Nisbet Cottage. One of the leading officials engaged in orphanage work says the reason for. the shortage is that many fathers who were for a while unemployed are now paid so much for the keep of each child, and therefore are claiming back children who previously had been sent to orphanages. Inquiries made in Auckland indicate that tliere is no shortage of children for local orphanages. Officials engaged in orphanage work said to-day that the roll numbers at the home had shown no alteration for some time. There had been isolated cases of relief workers taking their children from homes, but generally the tendency was for the figures to increase rather than to decrease.
