NEW RIFLE RANGE.
TJSE OF CROWN PROPERTY.
. t (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. Following representations made by the Defence Department and the Whangarei Rifle Club, through Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., the Department of Lands has approved of an area of Crown property on the Whareora Road being made available as a rifle range. Since the establishment of small farms at Ktoreroa and the consequent closure of the Otaika range on account of the danger of "stray" bullets, the Whangarei Rifle Club has been without a home. The local defence authorities, also, have been seriously inconvenienced by the lack of facilities for target practice. Ranges-Officer Daviee visited the proposed new site last week,, and, after discussion with Captain Foster and local riflemen, reported favourably upon an area being set aside for the purposes of a rifle range. Mr. Murdoch, in advising by wire of the Department's sanction, intimated that money had been provided for immediate necessary works.
