FIRE BOARD.

ELLERSLIE STATION. NEW LYNN PROTECTION. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board met this nforning, Mr. J. J. Kingston presiding. On the recommendation of the finance committee it was decided to accept the tender of C. W. Ravenball at £2(i44 for the erection of a lire station at Great South Road, Ellerslie, and to proceed with the erection of the building immediately. There were 14 tenders, the one accepted being the lowest. The highest was £3178. The tender of Northern Automobiles, Ltd., was accepted for the supply of a Bedford motor engine and pump for the Great South Road station at a cost of £720. The superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, reported that the capacity of the pump was 350 gallons, instead of 300 gallons as originally intended. The machine is to be constructed according to the board's specifications, and will be subject to tests to the satisfaction of the board before delivery is taken. . The Audit Department wrote advising that as the Minister of Finance had not approved of provision being made in the current year's estimates of fire boards in respect to the payment of heavy traffic license fees, in the meantime the board should refrain from paying the charge pending determination by the Court in a case at present under consideration concerning the liability of boards. The New Lynn Borough Council advised that the terms submitted by the board for lire protection in the borough had been agreed to, and that a draft agreement would be submitted. The Local Government Loans Board wrote stating that it would be impossible to complete all formalities in respect to the scheme for conversion of the board's loans next month, and suggesting that it would be unwise to do so before February next. The letter was received. 1 The superintendent reported that for the month the brigade had responded to 57 calls. Dirtv chimneys were responsible for 10. 'There had been 20 false alarms. Fire plugs to the number of 1330 had been tested. The flow and pressure of water in each street in the Mount Roskill district had been tested. Mains had been extended in the Tamaki district. The installation of the fire alarm circuit into the Oneliunga station had completed the fire alarm system for the Mount' Roskill district.
