SERIOUS THREAT.
LYONS GOVERNMENT.
Old Age Pension Policy Causes Opposition to Unite. DISSOLUTION POSSIBILITY. X'uited P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Tho Canberra correspondent of the "Sydney Morning Herald" says that a serious situation lias developed in tho Federal Parliament. It was learned that the Country party intends to insist upon an amendment of the bill to give further concessions to old age pensioners. It is also stated that the party would receive the support, not only from the Federal Labour party and the Bcasley group, but from the Government's own supporters, who are prepared to vote against the Ministry unless some compromise is effected. This is likely, but the Government regards the matter as vital, and if defeated would seek a dissolution. MR. BRUCE ACCEPTS. Post as High Commissioner at London.
MR. LYONS EXPLAINS. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. Mr. J. A. Lyons, in formally announcing Mr. S. M. Brute's acceptance of the High Commissionership in London, said that Mr. Bruce was at all times free to make his own choice of appointments, and he had intimated that he was prepared to serve Australia in any capacity. He even concurred that there was much more important work to do in London. The Commonwealth Ministry was fully seized of his distinguished services both to Australia and the Empire, and the Ministry was anxious that lie should continue the work he had been doing in London on which their conversations had Keen very frank and very friendly. It was thought undesirable, however, to continue the office of Resident Minister indefinitely.
