NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE
UPWARD TREND OF PRICES. The upward trend in prices of New Zealand produce in the London markets is reflected in the ollicial export price index numbers for August, states. the Monthly Abstract of Statistics. The August index for dairy and pastoral produco showed an increase of 5.4 per cent, over July, 1933, and 18.5 per cent above May, 1933. The pastoral and dairy produce index for August, though the highest recorded since the end of August, 1931, was 10.2 below the 1914 level. The Dominion retail price index for all groups of household expenditure showed an increaso of 20.8 over the 1914 index. Food prices were 2.7 per cent lower than August, 1932, but prices for footwear, clothing and drapery were 2.9 per cent higher, compared with the same month. House rents were in August 0.0 per cent lower and fuel and lighting 10.5 per cent lower, compared with August last year.
