TE AROHA HORSES.

KING'S ARCHER RESUMES. MANGACEE A LIKELY SORT. Mr. Gordon Wyboru, breeder of D'Artagiian, has a well-grown two-year-old filly, by King Lu from a Glen Albyu mare that will soon bo ready for work. His mare Gold Beauty, by. St. Amans —Shower Gold, the 'dam of D'Artagnan, has been sent on a visit to Captain Bunsby at Wanganui. One of the most forward thoroughbreds here in point of racing condition is the Valkyrian—Keep Watch mare, Val Watch. A. E. Cox has this half-sister to Dayguard looking especially well. 3n a three-furlong flutter-this week with King 'Mestor' she showed to decided advantage. King Brierly and Nahlin in J. ¥. Eva's stable,, are giving every satisfaction in their work, more especially as they are of an even temperament and execute their tasks without any sign of flightiness. King Mestor may be said to be freshening up, and, being one of the light-fleshed kind, should be ready for. racing next month. In point of conformation, one of the most improved horses at To Aroha is Mr. P. A. Swney's Mangacre, by Acre—Mangamaire. This three-year-old has furnished splendidly, and although built on weightcarrying lines, shows real quality. ITe is a half-brother to Vaccination, Transformer and Black Maire, and looks like being one of the best from the Marble Arch marc, notwithstanding the fact that Transformer was a big stake-winner in the colours of Mr. J. Twohill. In a. half-mile sprint the other morning with Mungatoon he quite held his own and showed he possesses pace. Mungatoon has muscled up splendidly and carries plenty of the right condition. Mr. J. Whitten's King Ara, is showing work of a consistent nature, but for some time may not be required to contest events other than over short distances. C. E. Mallowes is working Desert Star, Don't Lap and Mustang. The firstnamed will be ready for fast work when required, being in very healthy condition, while not carrying any surplus lumber. Don't Lap has wintered really well, and although he ran disappointingly last season is quite likely to make amends for his failures in due course. Mallowes appears to have adopted the right line of action with Mustang, for, benefiting by an easy time during the winter and indulging in light exercise, the Musketoon — Lady Lcdbury gelding has thickened out very materially. He has pace and gameness and should be one to get on the winning list this season.

King's Archer has resumed track work. The Marble Arch gelding is big and lusty in condition, and in the nieantime it is not easy to form an opinion as to whether he will be ready to compete at the Avondale spring fixture. He is being trained by his owner. Although, not quite ready to fulfil his engagement at the Pakuranga meeting. Good Run has been executing good work since. Being now a four-year-old, he should hold his racing condition better than previously and is quite class enough to be a good winner. Moonfleet will be ready to race in the near future. He is moving along nicely on the tracks and carries the right muscular condition. The Silverado gelding should.have a successful racing season. J. H. Wallace's Cynic—Unique filly has not shown especial galloping aptitude yet, but this stable is not likely to keen going any aspirant for racing honours unless it gives some promise, so it may be assumed that the filly will make good in due course. A SUCCESSFUL SEASON. EEPORT OF JOCKEY CLUB. The report to be submitted to the annual meeting of the Te Aroha Jockey Club states that after depreciation amounting to £510 2/6 has been written off, the income and expenditure account shows a credit balance of £853 16/7, against a debit balance of £488 0/10 in the previous year. The finances of the club had had the close attention of the committee during the past year, the overdraft at the bank having been reduced from £2429 8/1 to £978 8/10. The committee adhered to its previous policy of keeping its stakes for the annual race meeting at as high a level as possible. A sum of £3100 was provided for the two da}-s. A total of £42,984 was invested on the totalisator for the meeting, compared with £34,591 for the previous year. The attendance showed a large increase, and the meeting resulted in a profit of £1717 8/1. The farm account this year showed a profit of £180 19/4. '■..'. The retiring officers, president, vicepresidents, treasurer and four members of the committee had again been nominated, and as no further nominations wore received these gentlemen would be.declared elected.
