WAIHI QUEEN.
RUGBY UNION CARNIVAL. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. The crowning of Miss Muriel Spiers, the Convent Old Boys' candidate, winner of the recent queen carnival which was conducted by the Waihi Rugby Union, took place in the Academy Theatre last evening. The ceremony, which was witnessed by an exceptionally large audience, provided a spectacular and musical success. The conferring of various honours on well-known citizens caused much amusement. Mr. D. McPherson acted as "Lord High Chancellor," and Mr. J. J. Callaghan as general director. The campaign realised £400.
