RANFURLY SHIELD.

- CHALLENGERS FOR TO-MORROW.

GIANT SOUTHLAND PACK. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Interest in to-morrow's Raufurlv Shield snatch is exceptionally keen. Southland will field a team of giant/forwards. Their pack averages 14st 41b, against Canterbury's 13st 21b. The backs of the challengers average 12st 31b and those of Canterbury list 91b.

Canterbury supporters have seen their own team outweighed before, and they know the fighting spirit that has surmounted this obstacle a number of times. They will be looking for it again to-mor-row. The Springboks, all English, Austrian and all New Zealand provincial teams have found Canterbury a rock on which many hopes have perished. It is generally accepted throughout New Zealand, that the Canterbury side is the hardest to beat on its own ground. ;In addition to three fully-booked excursion trains bringing enthusiasts from'lnvercargill, Dunedin and intermediate stations, special services will be run on all Canterbury lines.

The Southland fifteen will be:— Backs.—G. Porter, J. H. Geddes, N. Mitchell. A. McKay, R. Sharp, D. G. Grant, G. Thomas.

Forwards.—R. Donnelly, J. Mattinglv, C George, G. Purdue. C. Pawson, W. Southern, R. Berry, T. Metcalfe.
