AMBULANCE WORK.
RANGE OF ACTIVITIES. REPORT BY MANAGER. The extent of the activities of the St. John Ambulance Association units in Auckland is demonstrated in a report by the,manager of the Auckland Centre, Mr. S.'E. Langstone. The report deals with the activities of the body for July, and reads as follows: —
"During the month district nurses of the association paid 1027 visits to 32.'$ different homes, an average of over three visits to each home. Most of the patients visited were in poor circumstances as well as in ill-health, a-! many of them were supplied with 't > and other necessities, including firing The nurses assisted "whenever possible in household work, and in many 'cases called in medical men and arranged for the transport of patients to hospital. "Over 70 people attended the outpatients' department in the Rutland Street ambulance station. Some of them were unemployed men and their dependants, and they were supplied with food and clothing. The district nurses during the month travelled 1300 miles by car. The annual cost to the association of .this service alone is -£700.
"The St. John motor ambulance service during the month provided transport for 049 patients, including "230 transfers, and travelled 4920 -miles. More than half of the people carried could make no payment toward the transport charge. - :
"Members of the association had attended regularly the various missions conducted by the Churches for the sick and poor, and free instruction in first aid and home nursing had been given to a large number of relief workers."
