COLOURED MAN GUILTY.

COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE.

A coloured labourer, William Scarbroa, aged 47, appeared in the Police Court this morning on a charge of breaking and entering the house of W. J. T. Sherer, 1, Riordan's Lane, on August 3, with intent to commit a crime.

He was further charged that on July 28 he stole a suit of clothes valued at £4 10/, the property of E. L. Cameron.

Evidence was given by Mrs. Sherer that on August 3 she saw accused near her house. On going in the door she saw Scarbroa in the house. He left without making any remark.

Constable Agncw said lie accosted accused in Hobson Street, and took him to tho Freeman's Bay police station, where Scarbroa made a statement admitting the offence. He said he stole nothing from the house.

Scarbroa, for whom Mr. Newbury appeared, pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on the first charge. On the charge of theft he was convicted and discharged by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.
