HALF TAX REMITTED.

RACE MEETING.

ABOUT £400 FOE EELIEF FUND."

The Auckland Racing Club was granted a permit for an extra day's racing at Ellerslie last • month, and decided to devote the net profits to the Governor-General's Eelief Fund. The meeting was held at Ellerslie off July 22, but owing to the bad weather there was a small attendance, and only £16,946 10/ went through the totalisator. The secretary, Mr. W. S. Spence, said to-day that the meeting actually showed a loss of about £300, but as the Government had decided to remit half the totalisator tax, the fixture would show a profit of about £400, which sum would be handed over to the fund.
